4th Annual Editor’s Shootout set for April 2nd

February 28, 2011

The 4th annual Goodguys Editor’s Shootout AutoCross – a special event featuring the editors of national automotive magazines, websites and television programs is set for Saturday, April 2nd in Del Mar. The Shootout, one of many featured attractions at the Goodguys 11th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals, pits the editor’s against one another racing against the clock to see who can log the fastest 3 lap average around the course.

Several big name players have signed on including last year’s winner Nick LiCata of Camaro Performers and his trusty sidekick Steven Rupp, Doug Glad and Jeff Smith of Car Craft, Johnny Hunkins and Chris Campbell of Popular Hot Rodding, Henry DeLos Santos and Sean Haggai of Chevy Hi Performance, Kevin Shaw of Street Legal TV, Rick Titus of Drivers Talk Radio, Mark Gearhart of Stang TV, Paul Huizenga of LSX TV and several others. Our own resident editor, Kirk Jones will carry the hopes of the Goodguys Gazette into battle!

One of the coolest aspects of this year’s Shootout is the vehicles the editors will be competing in! Several industry friends have stepped up to donate cars for this year’s competition. Optima Batteries has provided their ’68 Camaro, Hotchkis Sport Suspension donated their yellow ’71 Challenger and Ridetech volunteered their ’69 Mustang. There you have it – a Ford, a Chevy and a Mopar!

The Editor’s Shootout will kick off at 12:30pm on Saturday, April 2nd. Keep in mind, The Goodguys AutoCross course will be open Friday and Saturday and is free to all event participants who have a registered vehicle in the show.

Many of you remember seeing the car at Goodguys events in 2010 along with the Kosair Shriners. Brenda, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, purchased her winning raffle ticket at last year’s Goodguys Nashville Nationals. Through selling raffle tickets for the car, Kosair was able to raise $156,255 to be used for children in need of organ transplantation and research.

The Charity went on to thank everyone who sponsored or purchased tickets for this year’s project, especially the roadster pickup’s build Team which included Dwayne Holthouser, Marty Hale, Mark McGaha, Larry Sneed Interior’s, Bird Fuller’s Body Shop, Jackie Fuller Painting, Bob Lathery Pin Striping and Gator’s Power coating.
